9000 Guaranteed Entries by August 15, 2009
The Portland Marathon is open to runners and walkers of all ages and skills. Wheelchair and handicapped entrants are also welcome. We strongly discourage participants under the age of 16. Those between the ages of 16 and 18 must have parental approval.
NOTE: For your own protection, entrants are strongly recommended to have had a thorough medical examination within six months of race date.
ALSO NOTE: Unregistered participants are not allowed to complete the course and are subject to removal by event officials and/or police.
Entry fee is $90 which is non-refundable and non-transferable and can not be rolled over. Our early guaranteed entry date based on 9,000 entries will be August 15th. Last year we were nearly full by August 15th so register early. You can download entry forms or enter online here.
Runners and walkers may late register (fee: $150) on October 2nd and 3rd at the Portland Hilton during the Sports Fitness Expo and packet pickup. NOTE: NO DAY OF RACE ENTRY OR PACKET PICKUP.
Age groups and categories for men and women will include 15 categories: 19-under; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40- 44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80- 84; 85-89; 90 & over. Number of awards are based on the number of participants in each category.
Since 1986 the marathon has recognized that larger, heavier participants are at a disadvantage when competing against lighter counter parts. To meet the challenge the Clydesdale and Bonnydale divisions have been established. Categories include:
| 39 and under and 40 and over for: | |
| Men | Women |
| 185-199 | 145-159 |
| 200-224 | 160-179 |
| 225-249 | 180+ |
| 250-299 | |
| 300+ |
In addition there are "Pump and Run" divisions where participants may bench press weights at the Hilton during the packet pickup. A formula of weight pressed at the time of completion is used to determine winners.

Those interested in these divisions must officially sign up for the competition at the Portland Hilton during packet pickup. Look for signs in the main Expo room. There is a special $5.00 entry fee. Award winners known at the time of the awards ceremony will be announced. Awards are sent to winners after the event.
Those who have registered online will receive an email confirmation letter (for the registrant to print out). Those registering online who do not provide an email address, as well as those registering through the US Postal Service, will receive their confirmation letter via regular mail.
Confirmation letters must be presented at the Expo during registration in order to receive your bib, timing chip, and goodie bag.
